FAQ

Common questions and troubleshooting tips.

What file formats can I upload?

CSV (.csv) and Excel (.xlsx, .xls) exports from your bank. Most major Canadian banks are supported.

What banks are supported?

RBC, TD, Scotiabank, BMO, CIBC, Tangerine, PC Financial, Simplii, and most other Canadian banks that allow CSV/XLSX export from online banking. If your bank isn't recognized, email info@expenseflow.ca with a sample file (sensitive data removed).

How does automatic categorization work?

ExpenseFlow analyses the merchant name and description of each transaction and assigns a CRA T1 category automatically. You can always change the category manually.

What is HST Claimed?

This is your estimated Input Tax Credit (ITC) — the HST portion of eligible business expenses you may be able to claim back on your GST/HST return. Consult your accountant to confirm what applies to your situation.

Can I upload multiple bank accounts?

Yes. Upload separate files for each account or credit card. Filter transactions by source in the Transactions view to see each account separately.

How does duplicate detection work?

If you upload a statement that overlaps with a previous upload, ExpenseFlow automatically detects and skips duplicate transactions based on date, description, and amount. Safe to re-upload.

What happens if I delete an upload?

You'll be asked whether to also delete the transactions from that file, or keep the transactions and remove only the upload record.

Why are meals only 50% deductible?

Under CRA rules, only 50% of meals and entertainment expenses are deductible. ExpenseFlow automatically applies this rule when calculating totals and exports.

Is ExpenseFlow a replacement for an accountant?

No. ExpenseFlow helps you organize and categorize expenses, but we recommend working with a qualified accountant for tax filing. Our exports are designed to make it easy to share clean, organized data with your accountant.

Is my data secure?

All data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored on secure servers. We never have access to your banking credentials — you export your own file from your bank and upload it. Your financial data is never shared with third parties.

How do I contact support?

Email us at info@expenseflow.ca. We typically respond within one business day.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and all associated data and cannot be undone.
